Blogging for credit!

by aristan on Aug.18, 2004, under school

Farhad has decided that blogging will be our extra credit project in in ITN140. So everyone should leave comments telling him to give me lots of extra credit.

Remember: lots of extra credit.

I’ll post links to all the other students’ sites when I learn their URLs!

How to… Manage your time wisely…

by aristan on Aug.09, 2004, under the paper

I know it’s 4am, but I slept late today and now I’m up and active and finishing the paper.

Perhaps I should feel silly that it’s 4am and I’m working hard on finishing something I’ve spent a month on. Especially since I just edited an article on Time Management.

Maybe I should read it…

Just a thought.

Sexed Up Academies

by aristan on Jul.26, 2004, under school

I’ve been working on the Academies site for a while now, but one of the things that I remember and chuckle about is when D.I. said that I needed to remove the picture of a guy using a computer because he ‘Looked like he’d never had sex.’

So someone took it upon themselves Sex Up The CPCC IT Academies. (Probably NSFW… unless the door’s shut ^^)

I’m not going to school tomorrow because I’ve developed Anal Glaucoma.

I just can’t see my ass in that place.

I hate Math.

by aristan on Jul.20, 2004, under school

I just totally failed my math test. It was the last one of the semester and since it wasn’t above an 80, it doesn’t count toward my final grade. If I’d made at least an 87 on it, I’d have made an A in the class.

Now I’ll have to settle for a B.

Dammit, I hate math.

SLI Day One: Of Mice & Ghettomart

by aristan on Jun.14, 2004, under school

Well, finally here and It’s not so bad, even if I do have to share a bathroom with two other people.

It’s actually better than home in some respects, in the fact that the guys that I’m sharing with seem ok with me having a little bit of counter space in there. Also, neither of them have thrown any feminine hygiene products at or near the trashcan since I’ve been here.

Yesterday I woke up early, finished my packing and headed up to the school, getting there way too early and only to discover that Matt & Mary-Beth hadn’t arrived yet. I left a message for Matt (which he couldn’t answer due to some phone issues. Who knew you couldn’t let people drive over the things?) and called Mary-Beth to discover that she wasn’t going to meet us at school. Matt finally arrived and we headed out.

Matt & I talked most of the way and have come to the conclusion that we both hate Bush. Surprised, huh?

Arrival time was to be between 12:30 & 1:30, so of course I arrive at 1:25. Early I tell you. We went immediately into a session upon arrival and kept going pretty much all day. I really enjoyed finally learning about my personality type. I’d like everyone to know it’s not my fault. You can’t blame me for being messy, or shy, or quiet, or late ever again. It’s not my fault! I’m an INFP! We’re just made that way.

We had a speaker during dinner, president of one of the colleges. I’m sure we won’t see Zeiss here, and if we did I’d have to be introduced to him for the 3 time. Could we get that man some ginkgo?

After dinner, we met with our work groups (Go Blue!) and discussed our project, it seems like it’ll be pretty interesting. I think everyone in our group is bringing something different to the table and I can only hope what I bring is useful.

After group sessions and meeting with everyone to wrap up for the evening, we had the most important part of the trip.

I hate English Teachers. They’s so snooty and… where’s my thesaurus?

by aristan on May.27, 2004, under the paper

Rachel just told me that her English Teacher spent a whole class period picking apart the summer issue of Spark and finished up with “If you want to know how to write well, do what Spark is not doing.”

Sometimes I feel stabby.

I could begin with the fact that a newspaper isn’t a collection of essays that have sanitized and reworked hundreds of times for grades. No one (and by that I mean faculty or staff members) reads over our work before we go to press.

I’ve heard of several teachers who spend their time picking our work apart. Are your lives so devoid of meaning, your lesson plans so devoid of actual content that you have to pick on students?

You know what I think about?

If I want to use comma splices, if I want to spell everything fonetikally, if I just want to write everything in a encoded mirrored Prussian… I damn well will.

Of course, our boxes say ‘Free. Take One.” for a reason. You’re only supposed to take one, so if that teacher took 30+ copies for each class… then she owes me for the additional copies.

People need to learn there’s a difference between criticism and constructive criticism.

But what should I expect from someone who apparently is named after cheap candy.
