300 down…
by aristan on Apr.16, 2008, under internet 'culture'
I just went thru my email and finally deleted over 300 unread messages. I now have a mail icon that is the nice blue color rather than the angry purple color. The thing is, my icon only counts up to 9 unread messages. It has said ‘9+’ for months. Now it says ‘0′. It’s almost enough to make you cry.

Memes tend to be rare here at Malbela… but here’s one stolen from the wise and wonderful j-go.
1. How does the world see you?
“Love Child” – Diana Ross & The Supremes
“Love Child, Love Child/Never Quite As Good/Afraid, Ashamed, Misunderstood/But I’ll always love you”
A song about being treated like a second class citizen. Hmm… we’re off to a great start, Mister iPod.
2. Will I have a happy life?
“Hallelujah” – Rufus Wainwright
“it’s a cold and its a broken Hallelujah”
This is a song that’s beautiful and sad all at once. Great, why am I doing this again?
3. What do my friends think of me?
“Secret Agent X-9″ – Modest Mouse
“You think this guy was on a permanent vacation, But no he’s not, he’s a secret agent”
Are you saying they think they don’t really know me?
4. Do people secretly lust after me?
“Erotic (Parlo Dub)” – Madonna
“I’ll give you love, I’ll hit you like a truck”
Well, this is a good sign. But do I really need to be taught a few things?
5. How can I make myself happy?
“Cigarettes & Chocolate” – Rufus Wainwright
“If I should buy Jelly Beans, Have to eat them all in just one sitting.”
A song about overindulgence… Am I supposed to do it or realize that I do it?
6. What should I do with my life?
“Wonderful” – Brian Wilson
“She’ll return in love with the mystery, Never known as a non-believer”
Hmmm… I don’t know what say about this one.
7. Will I ever have children?
“Dark Of The Matinee” – Franz Ferdinand
“I charm you and tell you of the boys I hate, all the girls I hate”
8. What is some good advice for me?
“Hollywood” – Madonna
“Shine your light now, This time it’s got to be good.”
9. How will I be remembered?
“Enemy Fire” – Ryan Adams
“Learn how to change, and maybe I could stay”
10. What

Gmail loves me, this I know
by aristan on Feb.02, 2005, under internet 'culture'
Yesterday in Game Design class, I gave out two Gmail invites, so Gmail decided to reward me. I mean, yes I’ve sent received around 1500 emails in just over 6 months, but did I need 50 Gmail invites?
Well, needless to say, I’m pleased.
If you’d like one, let me know. I have plenty.
Firefox, Google, and Huge Ass Digital Maps
by aristan on Nov.09, 2004, under internet 'culture'
The Mozilla Foundation released Firefox 1.0 today with much fanfare. Mozilla’s site has been down much of the morning, and other Mozilla related sites, such as their european site are already slowing down to a crawl.
With a article on the front page of the business section of the Boston Globe and a full page ad in the New York Times (and rapidly passing a 10% market share), Firefox is becoming one of the hottest products this year. Unlike the other hot orduct of 2004, Firefox is free.
One of the things I find most interesting is the fact that the Firefox start page, originally the project page, is now a branded version of the Google Homepage. This could be the extent of the GBrowser, the Firefox based browser Google was rumored to be developing.
Google also bought Keyhole, a satellite photography & mapping company that is used by CNN and other major news outlets. Sounds like Google is even going after Microsoft’s Terraserver now.
Google moves ‘Invite’ link, causes unprepared geeks to cry
by aristan on Sep.03, 2004, under internet 'culture'
Don’t worry. You still have your gmail invites, google has moved them closer to the top of the screen since a lot of people couldn’t find them where they used to be located, under the Labels menu.
Of course, they gave hundreds of people heart attacks when they thought they’d lost all their invites.

GMail Jackpot
by aristan on Aug.24, 2004, under internet 'culture'
Anyone else seem to have hit the Gmail jackpot lately? I’ve gotten 7 invites to hand out now. It’s probably because of the huge surge in email I’ve gotten from my online classes this semester.
I may give a few over to Gmail4Troops, but I’ll probably have a couple left over. Leave a comment if you want one.
